McAlister MA-10B.jpg
McAlister MA-10B.jpg (767 KiB) Vist 39013 gange

Here is a custom built line level pre-amp & headphone amplifier. This amplifier is a special proprietary designed mu-follower with a 6MJ8 (All three triodes paralleled for the lowest noise and output impedance) as the gain tube and a 6MN8 as the current source for each channel. This is an extremely stable natural sounding pre-amp that uses no feedback and has no electrolytic capacitors in the signal path- only in the power supply.

The high voltage power supply regulator circuit uses a horizontal sweep tube followed with an oil filled capacitor. Secondary filtration with electrolytics by-passed with film caps. Ångstrom Zenith ZHA06 (€3600)

Angstrom Zenith.jpg
Angstrom Zenith.jpg (198.11 KiB) Vist 19956 gange

Ångstrom has developed the Zenith series with the aim of embracing a less elite market segment (no Stella series product is under € 10,000 and almost all of them exceed 20,000!) To do this, some straightforward choices were made: PCBs are used where the Stella series is always completely wired and there are also hybrid solutions where the Stella are strictly valve-only, even if, and here the "garlaschi thought" is triggered, the printed circuits are made with thick golden tracks and with high level components and solutions that are all in all simple but very elegant and functional.

• Type: Hybrid

• Inputs: 4x Line-In (RCA)
• Outputs: 1x Pre-Out (RCA), 1x Headphone Out (1/4")

STATE OF THE ART SOUND.. Each device from Angstrom Audio is one of a kind, manufactured in our laboratory with the care that is usually reserved for a work of art. From the simplest integrated stereo amplifier of the Stella series, up to the behemoth and exclusive Quantum series, the wiring of each piece is in full view, and realized in strict compliance with the design specifications of Roberto Garlaschi.

QUALITY STARTS FROM THE POWER SUPPLY.. The all-tube tube amplifier based on a circlotron design with two toroidal output transformers is supported by a double-stage power supply filtered against DC current pollution, for maximum current cleanliness. Thanks to this arrangement the signal is completely free from spuriae: the result is a clear sound, consistent performance and a complete absence of hum even from the least clean household electrical lines.

STEREO? NO, DUAL MONO.. The total separation of circuits of each channel, strictly observed in stereo-like integrated products, generates a signal that is characterized by a dynamic range beyond comparison

NOTE: Though the website is still up, there has been no activity since christmas 2019, also there has been no activity on facebook since Aug 2020. An SBAF post by Tyll Hertens back in Nov 2017 suggests no more amp building, only warranty repairs and selling off stock onwards. Still, an Apache 2020 version is being reviewed on HeadFi, where it is suggested Nov 21 in a follow-up comment that Ray Samuels may still take orders for another run of amps. Under doubt the RSA entry will remain for now.

RSA Emmeline II, “The Stealth” ($2500)

RSA Emmeline II, “The Stealth”.jpg
RSA Emmeline II, “The Stealth”.jpg (47.92 KiB) Vist 43263 gange

Pre-Amp/Headphone Amp

The Stealth is designed with the highest quality audiophile grade components and the shortest possible paths for the audio signal to pass through. All components are hand selected and matched between left and right channels.

The Stealth has four inputs and two outputs, all designed around a rotary switch on a special I-O PC board thereby completely eliminating the use of wires and making the signal paths short and pure. A large advantage of this design is that you will find no wires routed all over the amp to the rotary switch, eliminating any chance of cross-talk between the channels.

The Stealth is capable of driving two or four monoblocks for bi-amping a speaker system. The function rotary switch takes you through the sequence of turning the filament (heater) on first then sending a signal to the power supply to turn the DC Voltage on, during these operations, the audio signal is completely muted, then last, the audio signal is passed through the tubes. The Stealth, when used as a pre-amp, runs in a pure class-A single ended with only the one Hovland Cap in the signal path.

When designing the amp, the decision was made to design the circuit around the new stock tubes, which are available and for a low price. This design decision permits the circuit to operate many low, medium, and high gain tubes that are available today from current manufacturers. NOS tubes are also available and will provide the user with even more choices. You can use 12-AU7, 12-AT7, 12-AX7, and many more.

The Stealth will enable you to adjust your gain (volume) to your liking depending on the strength of your input signal. This will eliminate the need for a gain switch especially when an attenuator is being used. Thus the flexibility and strength of this amp will make you appreciate the variety and number of tubes that it can accommodate to tailor the sound to your liking. The Stealth’s chassis is a custom built black anodized aluminum, silk screened with silver lettering. It shields all electronics components from RF signals noise through DC ground of the power supply.

The power supply is housed in a very elegant black anodized aluminum chassis, and connected to the amp through a 5.5 foot shielded detachable umbilical cord. The transformer is a toroidal type known to be very efficient and run cool while operating without any noise or magnetic field that can cause all kinds of interferences. The AC is rectified through a full wave bridge rectifier, then stored in two separate filters while smoothened by a polypropylene capacitors. The raw rectified DC voltage is passed to a high voltage regulator capable of providing 700 ma of current. This is a state of art regulator chip is designed to work with very high voltages to provide the precise regulation needed. The regulated voltage is then stored and smoothed by another stage of filtering.

The filament voltage is provided by a high quality switching power supply that delivers 2.5 amps of current to drive any hungry tube filament with no problem. There are no upgrades offered or required with this preamp/headphone amplifier, as all parts used are of the highest audiophile quality.

RSA Emmeline II, “The B-52” ($5350)

RSA Emmeline II, “The B-52”.jpg
RSA Emmeline II, “The B-52”.jpg (39.8 KiB) Vist 43263 gange

Fully balanced Headphone amplifier and full functioning preamplifier.

The B-52 has dual mono power supplies. Each dedicated to one channel. It is highly rectified using high quality Panasonic power caps, and state-of-the-art 10 watt ceramic resistors. This process ensures that the proper voltage is passed to the high voltage regulators that hold the voltage steady consistently without peaking or dropping as the input AC voltage fluctuates. Every component is hand selected and matched between the left power supply and the right power supply. The two power supplies have a tolerance within 1-2 VDC. There are two LED’s on the face plate of the power supply each indicating that the power supply is outputting the correct voltage required. The power supply runs cold to touch and you can leave it on as long as your heart desires with out any concerns. It is capable of running 3 amp sections of the B-52 without a problem. When the power switch is activated, the plate voltage/high voltage, is ramped up slowly before applying the tube full operating power, which allows the filament voltage, which is +12.6VDC to arrive to the tube first before the full plate voltage achieves it’s maximum value to help prolong the life of the tubes. The power supply is completely free of any mechanical noise generated from any conventional transformers and has the lowest possible emission of electro-mechanical noise.

The technology involved in the pre-amp/headphone amp chassis of the B-52 is so advanced and intuitive it is dazzling. The only effort you are required to do is turning the selector switch to the desired input. Next, you select balanced or single ended input and the B-52 will do the rest. For example, If you choose input #1 which is a balanced XLR input, left & right channels, the B-52 will short out all the other four, unused inputs, left and right channels, whether being balanced or single ended, to the ground, not allowing any of them to introduce any cross talk or unwanted signal to the selected input. The B-52 has a tape loop/record out feature, both in the balanced and single ended mode. If the balanced XLR input option has been chosen, the chosen signal path will appear as fully balanced on the balanced XLR tape loop and also will appear as a single ended on the single ended tape loop in RCA. This gives you two tape loops in both balanced & single ended mode. If single ended, RCA, input has been selected, the “tape loop out” will have identical signal present at the RCA tape loop and the same signal will appear on the balanced XLR tape loop but in a single mode.,The same applies on the Headphone Amp Outputs. Both are active, balanced XLR & the ¼” headphone output when any input has been selected whether balanced or single ended.

The volume control is DAC, CT-2. It has four independent sections; each section is assigned to one amplifier. The volume shaft is connected to custom manufactured anodized knob. Two switches are located between the input selector & volume control. One allows you to put the amp/pre-amp into the play mode or it mutes the signal in case there is a need to answer the phone with out lowering the volume control. This will operate in both modes as pre-amp & as the headphone amp.The second switch allows you to operate the B-52 as either fully balanced or non-balanced headphone amp or fully balanced or non-balanced pre-map to control mono blocks. You don’t have to turn your mono blocks off if you want to go into a headphone amp mode, the switch automatically shorts the inputs signals of the non selected mode to the ground allowing the selected mode to operate fully with out any noise. Your mono block will sit very quiet without emitting noise due to the fact that their inputs have been directed to ground. The same is true, if you select the pre-amp mode the input to your headphones is shorted to the ground and you have dead quite headphones with no noise at all.

The selection of tubes is made very simple. The back tubes 1 & 2 are input tubes controlling the gain, and 3 & 4 are pre-amp drivers. You can use 1-4 12AU7 tube or any substitute that compliments that tube. Tubes 1 & 2 should be a perfectly matched set, same for 3 & 4. In the third and forth location you can use 12AX7 matched set tubes also. The front four tubes are the drivers or buffers that power the headphones. They are not used during pre-amplification.

The B-52 offers the best of the 2 worlds available to you and has the power to drive any headphones with impedances between 32-600 ohms with a warm, soothing detailed sound that will put a big smile on your face. It just might be the very last pre-amp/headphone amp that you will ever need to purchase.

WA33 Fully-balanced Headphone Amp/Preamplifier (STD $8500/Elite $16000/JPS upgrade +$2000/Tube upgrade +$5840)

WA33 Fully-balanced Headphone and Preamplifier.jpg
WA33 Fully-balanced Headphone and Preamplifier.jpg (226.26 KiB) Vist 39116 gange

In 2009, we introduced two world-class fully balanced headphone amplifiers––the WES electrostatic amp and the WA22 dynamic amp. Both are preferred choices among the most discerning audiophiles. Here at Woo Audio, we constantly push the performance boundaries. The newly developed WA33 is a state-of-the-art, fully balanced headphone amplifier that raises the bar in setting a new reference in music reproduction.

The WA33 employs a true fully balanced design in a compact form factor, featuring a quad of 6C45 tubes for the driver that pushes a quad of 2A3 tubes for the power, and all in direct-heated triodes. It delivers high power to drive demanding headphones to their full potential while maintaining a low noise floor for use with highly sensitive models. The WA33 shares the same striking appearance of the critically acclaimed WES, where both amplifier units are independent of the power supply. This approach eliminates any interference to critical audio components. Additionally, our internal coupling architecture (ICA) technology allows the WA33 amplifier to merge with the power supply unit without an external umbilical cord. The ICA shortens the signal path and thus significantly reduces unwanted electrical interference and raises sound performance to a level beyond what anyone has previously experienced in a headphone system.

The WA33 reveals the most delicate detail with the highest level of refinement. Complex music passages are handled with ease and authority. The expansive soundstage, holographic imaging, and rich tones that are pristine, natural, and vivid create a sense of realism that gives the user a euphoric listening experience. With the WA33, music comes to life.

Wolf Ear Natayo.png
Wolf Ear Natayo.png (3.12 MiB) Vist 43263 gange

High Power OTL Headphone Amp. The Natayo - This is the name of the mighty Lynx, a strong and fierce predator. Much like this powerful noble cat, this amp can take down its prey with ease!

FEATURES
Class-A Output Transformer-Less Headphone Amplifier
• Boasting a 3 watts RMS minimum into most audiophile headphones, this is not your typical OTL headphone amplifier!
• With one tube stage for gain and another to provide the power, low distortion output, this amp has a very minimalist signal path and is very fast and natural sounding.
• This amp is extremely linear and works amazingly with high impedance headphones, but works very well into loads as low as 32 ohms. Try it with headphones such as the Sennheiser HD800, Audeze LCD4 and Beyerdynamic T1.

Power Supply
• A choke input, as well as an additional choke for filtering gives you a very clean and quiet power supply. Power is rectified with hyper-fast, soft recovery FRED rectifiers.
• High quality film capacitors exclusively used throughout the whole power supply, which will vastly out outperform and outlast even the very best electrolytic capacitors.

Driver and Output Stage
• A giant step up in audio quality from any potentiometer, this amp ships standard with a series-type 24-step attenuator, made in house.
• The topology used on the driver maximizes voltage gain and is extremely linear. Use your favorite 6SN7 type tube here.

Copland DAC 215 (€1860)

Copland DAC 215.jpg
Copland DAC 215.jpg (83.88 KiB) Vist 43263 gange

Universal High Resolution DAC, Pre-Amplifier, Headphone Amplifier

The heart of the DA215 is an excellent D/A converter with multiple S/PDIF inputs, PCM, and DSD capabilities using the ES9018 Reference 32-bit DAC in quad-mono configuration, 8 mono to 2 stereo configuration. Combining four in-phase and four opposite-phase converters per channel, the statistical properties of the signals are taken to advantage; the signal power of the phases correlate and add-up in constructive addition, whereas the noise power of the phases are de-correlated, improving the signal to noise ratio of the resulting analog waveform.

The class-A buffering technology of the analog filtering sections is borrowed from the highly acclaimed Copland CD-players and composed by discrete transistors producing a stunning sound quality with an unconstrained mobility and acceleration.

The DA215 incorporates an asynchronous USB input, tree S/PDIF digital inputs, an analog input, two analogue outputs (fixed and variable) and a complete pre-amplifier with analog volume control and front panel headphone output featuring vacuum tube gain stages.

You can use the DAC215 for headphones playback. However, you can also use it as a high-end pre-amplifier with volume control, using the amplifier RCA outputs. The volume control and pre-amplifier functionality can be bypassed for pure DAC mode.

The DA215 USB input implementation is one of the most advanced available, featuring USB 2.0 PCM 24/32 bit data transfer to 384 kHz, including native DSD64 and high resolution DSD128. The input is converted to i2s and it is connected directly to the DAC chip.

Once connected, the computer recognizes the DAC and routes the digital audio data to it, bypassing the source device’s internal audio circuitry.

The asynchronous USB-B port connects to the computer’s USB-A port. No power is taken from the computer. The regulated power supply for the USB input section has its own winding of the power transformer and the noisy computer line is completely interrupted by the use of digital Isolators.

THE NEW CS600X
The new CS-600X has switched to using a pair of 12AU7A and a pair of 12BH7A vacuum tubes in the first stage of amplification, instead of the quad of NOS 6CS7 vacuum tubes used in the original design of the CS-600. The change is a response to the drying out of NOS 6CS7 supplies worldwide. Some minor modifications have been made to the original CS600 circuit, they require the replacement of four resistors, a re-wiring of the tube sockets, and the replacement of the associated wires. This relatively simple modificaiton can also be retrofitted on the original CS600, local dealers will be able to provide the details.

TWO SELECTIONS OF OUTPUT TUBES: 6L6GC(5881) AND OPTIONAL 6CA7(EL34) TUBES
By switching two selectors inside of the cabinet, you can use either of 6L6GC or 6CA7 (EL34) , and LED indicators on the front panel will show you which tube is applied.

POWER AMPLIFIER DIRECT SWITCH & INPUTS.
"PREAMP-IN" terminals on the rear panel allow you to use CS-600 as a power amplifier.
By switching a selector on thr front panel, by-pass all the functions only excepting a Volume control.

A WIDE RANGE OF SPEAKER APPLICATION
Multi output impedance selector: 4/6/8/16 ohms.

FLAT AND WIDE FREQUENCY RESPONSE
A wide-ranged and flat frequency response upto 100KHz is enough capable for future digital audio format such as SACD/HDCD.

OTHER FEATURES
• WBT type speaker terminals.
• Heavy-duty output transformer for 50W grade amplifiers.

Cary SLI-80HS.jpg (262.96 KiB) Vist 33429 gange

For many years the SLI-80 integrated amplifier has been the standard by which all other vacuum tube integrated amplifiers are judged…period! As Cary Audio’s entry into the magic of vacuum tube music systems, it’s nothing short of stunning. Thousands of music lovers all over the world have heard and seen the virtues of this spectacular vacuum tube integrated amplifier.

The new SLI-80HS (Heritage Series) maintains the integrity of its past. Its circuit uses very little feedback which gives it incredible transparency and detail in the music while providing bass texture and impact that belies its rated power output. Solid-state rectification adds excellent pace to the music and offers improved dynamics and bass detail over earlier versions. The depth of sound and transparency will cause you to snap your head in disbelief as you look to see the musicians performing in front of you. A pair of toggle switches select either triode mode producing 40 watts per channel of pure Class A power, or ultra-linear mode which doubles power to 80 watts per channel in Class AB. If you’re listening to more subtle music and want to hear all of the inner detail and richness, select triode mode for the most lifelike imaging and tonal accuracy. Or, if you want to really let loose, switch to ultra-linear mode and enjoy the extra power and dynamics. Your choice!

Cary Audio SLI-100 ($6500)

Cary Audio SLI-100.jpg
Cary Audio SLI-100.jpg (214.1 KiB) Vist 39287 gange

The SLI-100 is one of the most exotic integrated stereo audio amplifiers available. Within its power range, the SLI-100 displays the operating characteristics of a true “high-end” amplifier. Careful design, parts selection and proper circuit topologies contribute to incredible reliability and enjoyment. The SLI-100 integrated stereo amplifier operates in a Class AB1 mode utilizing a negative fixed bias supply. The KT150 output tubes are configured in push-pull and yield 100 watts/channel of output power. The output transformers in the SLI-100 are the most important component in the amplifier and have been specifically designed by Cary Audio for use in the SLI-100. Negative feedback is derived from the 8 ohm tap on the output transformer secondary. This feedback circuitry is used to reduce the noise floor and improve the speaker damping characteristics. Only 4 dB of feedback is utilized. The phase inverter is a self-balancing split load configuration utilizing the 6SN7 octal base dual triode. The preamplifier circuit is a Series Regulated Push-Pull (SRPP) Class A triode voltage amplification stage direct coupled to the phase inverter. The power supply in the SLI-100 features a 200% duty cycle EI laminate power transformer.

Another feature of the SLI-100, aside from how compact and gorgeous it looks, is the delightful, sensual beauty of the music it recreates. The first thing that will strike you about the SLI-100 integrated amplifier is the incredible transparency and resolution of detail in the music. The SLI-100’s sensual nature is best revealed in the sense of life it displays in female vocalists. The SLI-100 integrated amplifier presents music with such presence and directness, you’ll be drawn into the music hour after musically satisfying hour. This is the result of circuit techniques, which eliminate any discernible crossover notch at low levels, and also contributes to the freedom from listening fatigue. The SLI-100 will draw you in even further as you realize how lucid and utterly uncolored neutrality reveals delicate nuances in the sound stage.

Cary Audio CAD-300SEI ($6500)

Cary Audio CAD-300SEI.jpg
Cary Audio CAD-300SEI.jpg (697.13 KiB) Vist 39287 gange

Tube aficionados have long known that the best possible realism and detail comes when an amplifier is run in SET mode, or Single-Ended Triode. This lets one power tube handle both sides of each musical waveform, eliminating some of the most fatiguing distortions. It results in lower output power, naturally, but with high-efficiency speakers played at reasonable levels, its ultimate simplicity means the ultimate in musical naturalness.

While only offering 15 watts per channel of pure class-A remote-controlled power, the CAD-300SEI does things that almost no other amplifier today can achieve. Its careful attention to design and construction means that it is extremely quiet, allowing the tiniest musical details to float against a background of dead silence. This will help you perceive more accurate soundstaging and imaging cues, as well as the most realistic harmonic structure of each instrument. You can tell a Steinway from a Bösendorfer piano, a Stradivarius from a Guarneri or Amati violin, or a Fender from a Gibson guitar. You’ll hear inner details of musical groups that you never knew were there. Sometimes the simplest IS the best, and the CAD-300SEI is a testament to that philosophy.

Dared Saturn Signature ($2080)

Dared Saturn.jpg (147.98 KiB) Vist 39295 gange

SATURN Signature – Class A Integrated Amplifier (Single KT-150)

Introducing the Sound of Tube - Dared, and the new KT-150 SET high resolution tube integrated amplifier. Highly regarded by audiophiles, a single-ended triode (SET) amplifier is a vacuum tube electronic amplifier that uses a single tube for its final over a“push-pull” type tube amplifier which uses a pair of tubes using anti-phase internal circuit design to generate an output with the wanted audible signals present and the distortion components subtracted. All guitar amplifiers use this simplistic design since the 1940's and where SET amplifiers are achieving a cult status because of their alleged excellent mid-band performance. It is this "mid-band" that is to many as the most important part of the audio spectrum in music reproduction. This perceived high sonic quality noted by audiophiles is mainly attributed to the simplicity and minimalistic approach of the circuit design and the triode amplifying tube selected.

The new KT-150 tube reigns over Dared's predessesor the KT-120. For those so technically inclined, higher imaging and better current power with fast response is realized by way of a massive plate inside the tube being used with increased heat dissipation of 70 watts. The new KT-150 tube is considered as the most powerful octal beam tetrode ever produced, and where even the design of the KT-150 tube's glass casing with an egg shaped balloon design specifically improves thermal dissipation and maintains a superior vacuum for the best sound. The fact that the glass envelope has no flat sides results in where the tube has no issues with microphonics, a common problem with other like tubes.

As part of Dared's manufacturing standard and included in your component’s design and fabrication for exceptional, yet affordable sound quality is the use of: Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) wiring for having enhanced conductivity advantageous to audio signal transmission; custom made torroid transformer to prevent noise interference, a PCB using a 2 oz copper layer to maintain extreme low resistance and noise; Japanese Nichicon high quality Electrolytic Capacitors, Panasonic High Quality Coupling Capacitors. For superior high frequency performance, Non-inductive resistors and Gold plated tube sockets and input/output connections
