Stronger power supply and output stage for low impedance dynamic headphones (more than 20 Ohm).

EARMAX amps in general are OTL design (OutputTransformerLess). The actual output power and quality is depending on the load connected. Low impedance (low Z) headphones draw a lot of current and this requires a higher current power supply. The lower the headphones impedance is, the higher the power of the OTL amplifier is needed. The Brocksieper EARMAX Silver Edition headphone amp is optimised for this and comes with a very strong power supply. The SE is the identical design like the Brocksieper Anniversary model (just silver instead of gold hardware and no flightcase) known and prised for its outstanding performance among HiFi enthusiasts.

The Arkhipov’s Laboratory offers a line of exclusive, hand assembled headphone amplifiers - with a choice of valve (tube), solid-state and hybrid configurations. Our design philosophy is aimed at achieving superlative audio performance at the power levels needed by high quality headphones. All our valve (tube) amplifiers use proven, classical circuit topology based on triodes or pentodes as well as combinations of both. Output transformers are hand wound and designed individually for each unit. This results in a brilliantly light, lively and open sounding amplifier having excellent dynamic range suitable for reproduction of all types of music - from the lightest instrumental and vocals to hard driving rock, electronic or jazz.


FEATURES

Arkhipov amplifiers cater for a wide range of headphone impedances from 20 to 600 Ohms. Some models accept loads down to 8 Ohms. Each unit has dual outputs using two standard 1/4" (6.35mm) jacks. Signal source for our amplifiers is line-level of 250mV rms or higher, from CD players, phono preamps, computer sound cards etc. Arkhipov amplifiers are constructed by hand in laboratory conditions. Metal chassis parts are professionally fabricated with a high-grade black powder-coat finish. The timber plinths are entirely made from solid timber with a choice of oak, cherry, plum or other quality woods. All timber parts are coated with a hard-wearing, satin lacquer finish. Wiring is point-to-point with teflon insulation used exclusively and all components are of the highest quality. Each unit is subject to rigorous inspection & testing during each stage of construction, and additionally, undergoes a week-long proving cycle including burn-in, performance & listening tests.

Our Top-Tier models are split systems with separate power supply and amplifier units. The power supplies use tube rectification as in our "Dual Series". The amplifier unit comprises two tube stages and the output transformers. The Monoblock Series with integral power supply and tube‑transformer outputs, make up our middle price range. Our Budget range consists of a number of popular hybrid (tube and solid‑state) in the MELO series and the fully solid-state ALTERNATIVE. These models are available in standard format (St) using PCB construction or the slightly higher priced (Lx) hand-wired versions with higher quality components.


RANGES

• Top Tier — UNIVERSAL DUAL OCTAL (STX), ULTRA DUAL OCTAL:

UNIVERSAL DUAL OCTAL and ULTRA DUAL OCTAL are two-unit headphone amplifiers using our third-generation output transformers and are based on previous two-unit series as well as the "Jubilee Series". Each set comprises two separate chassis with inter-connecting cable between the amplifier and power supply. A toroidal power transformer feeds the system with a tube type rectifier, DC filament supply, and bayonet type connectors on the cable between the units. This arrangement of the "Dual" series totally eliminates any electro‑magnetic influence from the power transformer on the amplifer. While maintaning our Laboratory's traditional split system designs, the new "Octal" series is constructed with larger external dimensions and wooden decorative panels having a more complex profile. Both units use the highest quality components, octal based tubes and world-class output transformers such as SOWTER and LUNDAHL. The UNIVERSAL DUAL OCTAL amplifiers use the 6L6 (5881) as output tubes and 6SL7 as the driver while the ULTRA DUAL OCTAL uses the 6V6 and 6SN7 types. Both amplifier power supplies use 6X5 rectifiers. This new range of amplifiers, while retaining the basic characteristics of previous series, have a more expressive middle frequency range giving a very realistic sound image of the instruments being played as well as their spatial disposition. Bass is solidly fundamental, while the treble is accurate without excessive brightness.

For personal audio use Arkhipov Laboratores have introduced a new version of the UNIVERSAL DUAL OCTAL STX range, specifically designed to drive electrostatic headphones made by the STAX company. This series uses a combination of 6L6 and 6SL7 tubes with LUNDAHL output transformers.
The power transformer uses an M4 steel core, coupling capacitors are JENSEN COPPER paper/oil while signal wiring is single-core silver of various cross-sections also by JENSEN. These amplifiers exhibit a warm, velvet-like reproduction over the full frequency range. Electrostatic headphones driven by these amplifiers give fully dimensioned and accurate response.


• Monoblock Series — UNIVERSAL KENO, ULTRA EL:

A defining feature of our Universal series is their balanced performance and compatibility with all music genres, using triode-connected pentode output tubes. The flagship of the Universal series is the UNIVERSAL KENO. It uses two double-function tubes, triode-pentodes ECL805 (ECL85, 6GV8). The power supply uses a 6X5 (EZ35) rectifier. This range of amplifiers apart from suiting all musical styles, is sonically incredibly light and clear sounding making listening to your favourite music a real pleasure.

Ultra series units on the other hand, employ output pentodes connected in ultra-linear configuration which gives their own special quality to the reproduced sound. The ULTRA EL probably does this best, using two pentodes EL84 (6BQ5) and double triode 6SN7. The sound is light and transparent with no confusion between instrumental & vocal content regardless of the scale of the piece. Middle range frequencies reproduce clearly & accurately with a sonic image that is charged with emotion. Particularly suitable for playing classical and or jazz music.


• Budget Range — MELO Lx/St:

This design is a two-stage combination employing a tube voltage amplifier input stage and transistors as current amplifiers for the output providing matching for the low impedance (20 to 600 Ohms) loads presented by headphones. At present these amplifiers are built using selected vintage 6SN7 tubes and point to point wiring in the elite LUX version (Lx) while the simpler STANDARD version (St) is built on printed circuit boards. Earlier we had made MELO amplifiers based on other double triodes such as 6FQ7, 6CG7 or 12AU7, ECC82, 5963, 6189. MELO amplifiers display the warm, richly endowed sound characteristic of tubes. At the same time they possess fast attack and magnificently detailed sound with well formed bass and bright trebles.

ClassicRemix, the new integrated amplifier of Pathos Acoustics, stems from the desire to make a deep renewal of the critically acclaimed and award-winning amplifier ClassicOne. The goal was high sonic performance, excellent management of the digital musical files, and high quality listening with headphones.

The result, then, is a hybrid device, Class A / B, with a fully balanced circuit and capable of providing a power of 70 + 70W (prudential). Inpol devices have a special sonic personality obtainable only by means of this particular circuit design - fully balanced in Class A using a single solid state component in follower configuration, with high current gain and with voltage gain together. The valve amplifier amplifies the input signal voltage and InPol supplies the current to drive the loudspeakers without any further amplification. In this way the signal is entrusted to the valves and becomes a true copy of the original, with all the quality, purity and harmonic content of the original. This technology allows an increase in the theoretical output in pure Class A of between 25% and 50% together with a low output impedance which is fundamental for the damping factor, and further improved by the double InPol.

InPol (Inseguitore Pompa Lineare - Linear Pump Follower) is a system patented by Pathos Acoustics which has enjoyed great success and won many awards. Inpol devices have a special sonic personality obtainable only by means of this particular circuit design - fully balanced in Class A using a single solid state component in follower configuration, with high current gain and with voltage gain together. The valve amplifier amplifies the input signal voltage and InPol supplies the current to drive the loudspeakers without any further amplification. In this way the signal is entrusted to the valves and becomes a true copy of the original, with all the quality, purity and harmonic content of the original. This technology allows an increase in the theoretical output in pure Class A of between 25% and 50% together with a low output impedance which is fundamental for the damping factor, and further improved by the double InPol.

The circuit is based on the power supply of the legendary Neumann condenser microphones. The combination tube is DC-heated via an RC element and double buffering. The screen grid is also supplied via RC screening. The goal was absolute hum-free operation of the headphone amplifier. For the amplifier stages and the power supply, NOS tubes were used, which received the EternalArts logo as a sign of their testing and selected quality.

The EternalArts combination of a high-end preamplifier with headphone amplifier transfers the ingenious Futterman idea of a transformerless tube amplifier to a compact, puristic high-end control center for all types of power amplifiers and active monitors.

The signal is sent via a potentiometer to the grid of the triode in the combination tube. At its cathode there is an RC element with adjustable R, in order to be able to regulate the gain of the triode. The anode then controls the control grid of the pentode via an RC element. A low internal resistance is achieved through their cathode follower circuit. The signal is now coupled out at the cathode, with direct current components being removed by a capacitor. It then reaches the output via a fuse and two Zener diodes as overvoltage protection.

As a special feature, there is a rectifier tube in the circuit, which keeps the anode voltages of the triode pentode constant regardless of their level. The latter is DC-heated via an RC element and double buffering. The screen grid is also supplied via RC screening. The aim was to ensure
that the preamplifier was free from interference voltage . For the assembly NOS tubes were used, which are still available.

Finale Audio F108/128/F138 was officially discontinued 2019. The new EL84 SET-FFX will be the successor and the only Single Ended EL84 / 6BQ5 amplifier from Finale Audio/Triode Lab.

We mastered one little EL84 in SE mode almost 40 years ago. Have we stop making it due to high cost? No - we still make it for our EL84 fanatics, in modern high end standards (most tube circuits out there are from the old days with narrow bandwidth, and not very refined - it’s not a coincident some amps never had highs , or the noise floor is higher than usual , because its just another copy from the past). Each EL84 SET-FFX is one of a kind, made to your order. And here is the “TRIODE LAB†no hold barrette version of this tube in SE configurations - you can’t find the same voice and character else where. These exotic Hashimoto (Sansui) Transformers from Tokyo are the finest type HIFI transformers and are expensive. There is not another manufacture can afford to do this , we simply want the best or nothing! Because even we have the ultimate and finest circuit designs , without the finest transformers will not unleash its full potential. And these legendary Hashimoto transformers are proven on Sansui amps that be lasting forever.

• Custom Potted Toroidal Power Transformers ï¼ Power transformers generate two types of noise, magnetic and acoustic. That's why toroidal power transformers are used in the very best audio products. Compared to standard transformers, toroids radiate about 1/10 the magnetic field that pollutes music and obscures detail. Additionally, the absence of an air gap typically means toroids have an 8:1 reduction of acoustic noise. • +B relay ï¼ Replaces the plate fuse and works in conjunction with the OTP-circuit to protect the amp against tube failure. This method is less intrusive sonically and the relay resets itself once the faulty tube is replaced

RAAL|Requisite PDT-1a

Q: When are you guys gonna have more info on the small tube amp for planars/dynamics? Like price and such.

A: The retail price will be $1900.

The interest for it is greater than we expected, so right now we're increasing the batch we want to assemble. It will be at the shops by the end of October if everything goes well with our vendors for parts, transformers, chassis...

RAAL|Requisite VM-1a

Q: How about the specs on VM-1a?
I'm also curious about how the auto-bias is accomplished (as I see no pots for manual adjustment).

A1: No manual adjustment, all auto. Has to be like that, as toroidal output transformers are very easy to saturate with bias unsymmetry. The transformers are designed by Menno van der Veen and we have strictly followed the recommendation about autobias.

I can say about Vandeveen transformers is that they have the least sound of "iron" I've ever experienced! Also, the response at the end of the bandwidth (~32kHz) is a very nice and wide low-Q knee, without any traces of ringing. A very remarkable achievement for a 100 :1 transformer (10000x impedance conversion) for both bandwidth and lack of parasitic reactive components. It's bonkers and it sounds like an OTL with ba..s!
As the loading of the transformers is basically the cable resistance of 0.4 Ohms, we've made sure that cable parasitic Inductance is kept to a minimum, the same requirement as for the JotR. Not recommended to use with any other cables, as the cable is the actual load (ribbon is only 0.018 ohms) and you don't want unknown inductance to be multiplied 10000x and load the anodes as voltage-spiking reactance.

The amp is Class AB (70% of possible swing is class A) Push-Pull with a pair of EL34's, driven with high current/voltage swing capability of another EL34 that doubles as a phase splitter.
The input tube is 6SL7 triode, loaded with a CCS.
No overall feedback.
Output power at 0.4 Ohms is 21 Watts, about 3dB higher than what SR1a and SR2a can use cleanly, so basically, it all works in Class A, until you overload the headphones.
Input is only XLR with awesome Cinemag transformers, for audio ground isolation from source gnd and best possible CMRR.

Initially, we've had the speaker output, BUT...the sound of the feedbackless amp was so enchanting on SR1a that we ditched the speaker output as that can't work without feedback.
So, audio purity at it's finest all the way!
The one that got broken in shipping to the show was my piece and I'm still weeping over it's sudden death! However, it's martyrdom made me redesign the transformers mounting and it will be rock solid, worthy of MIL-spec hardware. Also, packaging is getting redesigned so it will arrive safely to any point on the planet, with all modes of transport.

We're really rushing to get the VM-1a into sales, and we'll do everything humanly possible to shorten that amount of time!

Again, circuitry is designed by Solaja Audio, with parts choice input by Danny and me and the sound is brought to the very summit through several iterations. And I'm so glad we all did it!

A2: And I didn't explain the very important thing about VM-1a...
VM stands for Variable Mode, meaning that after you turn it off, you can change the output tubes operational mode from Ultra-Linear ( local feedback between output tubes and transformer), to Triode, to Pentode.
Now that is something I can't live without now! I get the politeness and accuracy of UL, lushness of T or slam and attack of P...all in just one amp!

You know, we design things that we will be happy to use ourselves and we definitely understand what it's like to have to make a choice about the type of tube amp you want to buy for a hefty amount of money. The trouble is that whatever choice you make, you'll be wrong in certain areas of sound, so this way, you'll always get it right, regarding your taste or what the musical choice requires.
Tubes are incredibly rewarding as an audio experience, but the circuit topology choice will limit the performance for some music and enhance it for some other and you can't have it all, but this way you can and I love that! It's the first time I really started to want a tube amp after many, many years as an audiophile.

Q2: Can you add speaker output function if you make feedback on off switch?
And can the VM-1a be used with conventional headphones?

A3: The trouble with that is if you flip the feedback switch while the amp is on, you'll get large pops and bangs and you are likely to do damage to speakers or headphones.

Also, we're not fond on having any type of feedback to depend on switch reliability. If there would be any deposit on contacts after a while, things may go drifting, making noises, even channel imbalance...We prefer normally soldered traces and component leads with anything feedback related.

Now, even if this is not a real issue, that we're just too cautious, there is a problem of open loop vs. closed loop amplifier gain.
With feedback on, and if it's 20dB, the amp will loose 20dB of gain, so we would need another voltage gain stage stage to get the gain back...

With feedback off, you have too much gain, the volume pot never above 9 o'clock, and there is one stage too many in the circuit.

I mean, all of that can be made to work correctly, but it just didn't seem to be a nice, simple and pure concept, with that unnecessary extra stage in the circuit, when we're focusing on ribbon headphones.

As for conventional headphones, it doesn't work right, simply because of the noise. This is actually a kind of a "loudspeaker" power output, designed to pump out 7+ Amps of current into the headphones. Because it's a normal power amp, it doesn't have low enough noise floor for highly senstitive transducer that you stick close to your ear.
It would literally be like connecting a speaker that has 130dB/W to a speaker tube amp, so the hum and buzz would be ever-present and very annoying.

Granted, feedback would reduce that to a very low level, but then the point is lost. You're listening to ribbon headphones without feedback, but have to use it for all other headphones. It wouldn't be the same sound at all.

So, it comes down to horses for courses, and this is a one trick pony...but no other pony can do that trick and that's just the trick we need

Tube/JFET dual mode headphone amplifier with integrated Hi-Res USB DAC

For the first time, a portable amplifier is equipped with both electron tube and solid-state JFET as major gain devices. Instead of remove and replace process, either device is activated through a simple toggle switch and into action immediately. It is achieved through an innovative circuit topology to embed both devices exactly in the same location of signal path. When switching between JFET and Tube, it is easy to tell the difference between the two. Tube brings a smoother and emotional touch in the music, while JFET is more pronounced and powerful in each note. It is all up to user’s taste and scenario to choose from. All passive components are selected for best audio quality. The extensive application of MELF resistors from Vishay in signal path is high power SMT counterpart of through-hole resistor for their smooth and low noise characteristics. The main power supply filtering capacity is directly inherited from Sassy GT for proven performance. The tube’s filament supply is bypassed with OSCON™ cap for extensive frequency response comparable to film cap while has electrolytic capacity. The output stage is supported by multiple organic polymer capacitors right next to supply pins. This technique reinforces the stability of power under stressful music passage at output stage. High capacity 18650 cell and USB type-C quick charging port
The adoption of 18650 cells has increased the power capacity of Chimera GT easily up to 2 times of Chimera. Following the capacity increase, a new USB Type-C charging scheme is necessary not to increase the charging time. For over 1.5A charging current, we are able to fully charge the cell within 3 hours. Balanced input stages
Ever since the popularity of the 4.4mm balanced jack in portable music devices, there is a chance to take advantage of high signal integrity and transmission benefit. An issue with 4.4mm output is at the cable that always has only 4 connections and lack of ground terminals. By inserting a buffer stage, Chimera GT is able to restore the ground level of the source. Discrete output stage

4.4mm balanced phone jack
For tens of years, the specification of phone jack is steady, though there are proprietary terminals used by some manufacturers for balanced output. There is never a de-facto and reliable standard well accepted by the industry. Until the 4.4mm jack is released, we see a promising physical implementation that is reliable enough and well accepted as next generation phone jack. By applying the new balanced jack, PHAntasy can serve headphones with quality cable and minimum contact resistance to ensure robust output quality. In addition to 4.4mm balanced jack, a legacy 3.5mm single-ended output is provided for best convenience. While user is advised to use only one of the outputs at a time, it is to ensure the proper loading impedance in single-ended topology.

Improved Nickel core output transformers
It is well known that output transformer is the spirit of single-ended amplifier. However, there are challenges to design transformers for small portable chassis. For example, the high wiring resistance is one of biggest challenges. The resistance is in series with headphone and consumes output power. It lowers the effective power into headphone. In PHAntasy II, we struggle to increase the wire gauge and reduce over 20% in-series resistance.

Double the capacity of power reservoir
We are not talking about the battery capacity because 8-hour operation time is satisfactory to most users. It is the immediate capacitance right before amplifier's high rail. It is critical to have plenty of power capacity for a class-A amplifier. In PHAntasy II, we rearrange the components placement to increase the board space for housing more capacitance and revisit physical PCB layout to further minimize impedance and increase effective capacitance.

Super linear circuitry
The sensational performance of vacuum tube might be rooted in its higher 2nd harmonics output, while excessive mix-up of harmonics from different stages will muddy the sound. By leveraging the development of Phantom, we are aware of the lower distortion from surrounding circuitry will faithfully preserve the resolution and liveliness of music without losing the magic of tube sound. By applying the same super linear topology, the performance of PHAntasy II is manifested in its purer music presentation.

Summary
There is always a question on how to compare PHAntasy II with original one in every aspect. The truth is we have done our best to improve PHAntasy II's performance physically. But audio playback is always more than engineering or physical superiority, it takes human touch and sense to be sensational. The faster transient response and more powerful punch in PHAntasy II might compromise a little bit in tenderness. PHAntasy II is nonetheless inherits the tradition of Phatlab Audio. It is easily manifested itself in the first tone in audition.

Build a fully balanced tube amplifier from ground up
There is nothing like Phantom from design concept to practical implementation. Apart from our portable products, Phantom gains the benefit of unlimited power supply and spacious enclosure to include whatever ideally suited audio performance. The first idea came to our mind is a full-balanced topology. Not catering to market hype for balanced amplifier, but to leverage the advantage of balanced topology leading to ultimate sound quality. Instead of a balanced to single-ended conversion at input and a single-ended to balanced conversion at output, we apply a much tedious and costly four-amplifier scheme for a true balanced stereo amplifiers. The decision follows by many design challenges when we determined to make it as ideally as we planned.

A high precision 4-channel volume control
The first challenge is how to make a 4-channel volume control with minimum tolerance. In a single-ended counterpart, a two-channel volume potentiometer with 10% tolerance is widely accepted, even though we usually found imbalance at low volume level between channels. However, using a 4-gang potentiometer in a balanced design, the huge tolerance may easily deteriorate the advantage we gain from balanced topology. One simple fact is the common mode rejection is seriously degraded by as much as the tolerance between gangs.
We use R-2R resistor ladders as volume control unit for zero tolerance between channels. The signal path is true analog with digital interface, so there is no signal imbalance among them. And the user interface is thoughtfully maintained the analog touch. The volume control is almost zero tolerance, high resolution even at lowest volume level and intuitive as traditional potentiometer.

Solid Chassis and Suspended Tubes Module
We have gained many experiences from portable amplifiers and well aware of the vulnerability of directly-heated tube (DHT) to vibration. By leveraging the luxury of enclosure space. There are several directions to stabilize the chassis and isolate vibration from tubes. One is an extremely solid and heft enclosure, though an 10kg+ chassis may beyond anyone's expectation for a headphone amp. And second is independently suspended tube module. Through delicate mechanical design, the chassis is not just heavy but also as solid as machined from a single metallic brick. Every plate is machined from 10mm solid aluminum and faceplate is over 20mm. Four especially design pillars are used to support tube sub-assembly and dedicated springs are inserted to further dampen the minimal vibration. The chassis of Phantom is solid as a tank and gentle as a cradle.

The Heart of Phantom, 3Q4 (DL95) Directly Heated Tube
With all the dramatic progress, there is one thing we did not change. We adopted a directly heated tube – 3Q4 in Phantom. We are true believer in directly heated tube for their sensational audio performance of intimacy and lifelike sound stage more than none-filament type valves. Phantom with triode-connected 3Q4 immediately warms up into working condition, though it takes tens of minutes for optimum sound quality.

High Fidelity Output Transformers
We are proud to say the single-ended output has equivalent performance as balanced output by leveraging output transformers in Phantom. There are many praises about Phantasy's audio quality and most are originated from its premium output transformers. Without exception, Phantom is integrated with high quality output transformers. Thanks to the roomy enclosure, we have plenty space to house high power iron cores without compromise. The model used in Phantom is newly developed especially for its output stages and driven by two amplifiers in a push-pull style to minimize distortion and noise.
The output transformer is the last mile in delivering music energy to headphone. The bandwidth, dynamics, distortion, and maximum output power are limited by this iron core. No matter how well active circuitry performs, an inferior transformer will choke them all. A dual secondary coils are wisdom borrowed from PHAntasy to adapt to wide variation of headphone impedance.

Simple and Elegant
Phantom has followed Phatlab's highly regarded tradition – Simplicity. No matter how sophisticated internal architecture is, it is presented to user with a simple and intuitive interface through elegant and professional industrial design. Though the construction and component counts are many times of its portable predecessors. Phantom is strictly binding to principle of shortest signal path. From input buffer, volume control, up to power amplifiers, there is only one voltage gain stage. This is the only way to minimize internal generated noise. There is hardly a trace of hiss even paired with most sensitive headphones.
Critical music signals and outputs are routed through mechanical relays for highest purity. The relays used in Phantom is especially selected latch-type that means relay's coil does not consume current after switching. Without the coil current, we avoid the electrical field next to signal path. Though a latch-type relay needs much more complex control circuits, it is our exhausted efforts to minimize interference.

Luxury Power Supply
Starting from portable devices, power supply is always a high priority on our design approach. Thanks to the desktop setting, we have plenty of luxury on power block. The power transformer is rated over 80VA and built with top-rated iron core. Running at pure class-A, Phantom is consuming most power after power on. The quality is assured by its slightly warm even after days of operation.
There are 6 regulated power rails specific for each function block ranging from input buffer, volume control, digital control, filament supply, and B+ high voltage.

Awesome ID and Mechanism
Phantom is another masterpiece designed by highly regarded ID and mechanical professionals. The enclosure ingeniously interlock through invisible tenons and notches is as solid as machined from a single brick to ensure best rigidity and precision. The marking is laser trimmed on. Helt igennem fremragende og uundværlig tråd i ethvert respektabelt headfi-forum! Alle mine 10 tomler op for dette initiativ.
Jeg har endnu en lille bøn om et fast indslag for hver post: info om designerens og producentens land. Altså, er der fx tale om en amerikansk, tysk, engelsk, japansk eller bare endnu en kinøjser ;-)
Det mener jeg, er meget vigtig info.

STAX introduces a new vacuum tube output driver unit “SRM-500Tâ€, the successor model of “SRM-006tSâ€. STAX custom-made low noise DUAL FET is installed on First Stage and the vacuum tubeâ€6FQ7/6CG7″ is installed on Output Stage. STAX continued to use the traditional circuit design which is perfect for STAX vacuum tube driver and improved the power efficiency. Finally SRM-500T achieved the sound quality improvement.

In addition to the conventional power transformer for the high voltage circuit, the newly designed power transformer with the winding for the low voltage circuit is installed in SRM-500T. The low voltage winding enables to improve the power efficiency and achieve further power saving and better sound quality than the conventional vacuum tube output driver units such as SRM-006tS

The new chassis which is more rigid than the conventional model is installed. The chassis has a hybrid structure using a lot of non-magnetic aluminum and further reduces the effect of the environmental noise factors such as vibrations. The inputs are RCA and XLR, the mutual exclusion inputs. The custom made concentric dual volume knob which is common to STAX products and RCA PARALLEL OUT functions are installed same as the conventional driver units. All electric components are strictly selected considering the environment. Also the sound quality and the performance is improved. The complete DC amplifier configuration that the signal circuit includes no coupling condensers is one of the biggest traditional features..

The clear and highly transparent sound, a feature of the vacuum tube circuit and the warm and wide sound texture is maintained and the thickness of the low-mid range is brushed up. This is the new choice for the combination with the advanced lambda series (SR-L300/SR-L500 MK2/SR-L700 MK2).

Features
• Low-noise, well-established 6922 dual triode tube adopted for high sound quality. The noise level is extremely low and, by just that much, the particle of low-level sound usually buried in noise comes up to the surface.
Then even the usual level sound clears up to improve sound quality such as transparency. It seems as if the glass which superficially looks transparent has been cleaned anew. The whole circuit forms a hybrid one using class-A semiconductor output stage with large current emitter follower. The result is very low noise, live and smooth musical sound as well as excellent spatial description.
• Balanced inputs realizing true tone quality of balanced transmission.

• The chassis is made of non-magnetic aluminum instead of conventional iron. Thus the factor of cloudy tone quality has been eliminated and the weight has become lighter at the same time.
• Four pairs of inputs are equipped. (Notes: LINE4 is an optional circuit board slot for future purpose. As for now, release is not yet determined.)
• LINE1, LINE2 or LINE3 inputs of the SRM-T8000 can bypass the incorporated volume controller, enabling it to connect to source equipments with volume controller or to an external attenuator. That is, the unit can be used as an exclusive power amplifier with no volume controller.
• The newly developed large-sized aluminum insulator combined with new vibration-proof material and high frictional coefficient (grip power) has been employed. The friction power is so high that you almost need not hold the unit when inserting the plug of your earspeaker.
• Various high-grade electronic parts have been employed paying careful attention to tone quality, performance and environments.

Single-ended 6922 head-phone amplifier + pre-amplifier

This is our entry level headphone amplifier, using the most common small 6922 tubes as the output devices. This unit can drive any headphones with an impedance higher than 16ohms. This headphone amp is also built with a pre-amp output connector, you can also use it as a pre-amp.

6W x 2 single-ended power amplifier (Headphone amp)

This is our entry level single-ended power amplifier, using the most common 6BQ5 small power tube as the output section. A total of 4 output transformers are used to deliver the 6Wrms maximum. This amplifier can drive speakers with an efficiency above 86db/W, or it can be used as the second amp to drive the tweeter section of a bi-wireable speaker system. A special version built with NOS UTC 2W output transformers is available. A version with XLR balanced outputs and a dual input selector is also available.

1W x 2 single-ended power amplifier (Headphone amp)

This is one of our top model single-ended power amplifiers. Although it only has 1Wrms, it can drive a pair of speakers with 90db/W efficiency to a reasonable loudness level. It is also a very high quality headphone amplifier, super quiet, super warm and rich sounding, with good body and density. The output transformer uses a NOS UTC 2W wide band transformer 600:8ohm type.

There is a special version of the SE-6AS7G, which employs a HPF (high pass filter) switch to select either full range or high frequencies. Another pair of pre-amp RCA outputs can be added to let this amp perform as a transformer output pre-amplifier. A pre-amp / power amp switch can alternate between speaker output or pre-amp output. This option will cost an additional C$300.

2W x 2 single-ended power amplifier (Headphone amp)

This is one of our best sounding single-ended power amplifiers. Although it only outputs 2Wrms it can nevertheless drive a pair of speakers with 88db/W efficiency to a reasonable loudness level. It is also a very high quality headphone amplifier, with a super quiet, super warm, rich sound. The output transformer employs a NOS UTC 2W wide band transformer.

This is the enhanced version of our small powered 6AS7G amp, which has a bigger power transformer for higher power output capability as well as a more transparent sound quality. This version can be built with a 300Hz (option: any freq) high pass filter with a by-pass switch. This makes it easier to adapt between a normal single amplifier system or a bi-amped configuration. Input level controls give flexibility to best match the tonal balance between the hi-section and lo-section amplifiers in a bi-amped system. A 3 input version is also available.
