Clinamen Ariel (€3450)
The amplifier is completely single ended, with two active stages made with high-performance valves: the 6H30 that serves as a stage driver is used in a configuration that maximizes the linearity and the voltage swing; the power valve, for audio use, EL84, triode connected, provides 1 watt rms low distortion power.
The peculiarity of this circuit, compared to the majority of Headphone amplifiers, is that it doesn't use output circuits OTL (output transformer less) for both safety and musical reasons: Clinamen indeed strongly believes that the way of impedance matching (a horn if we speak of acoustic impedances, an audio transformer if we speak of electric impedances) is the main way that allows to pursue the natural way of the sound.
Few components, inherently linear, carefully tied by the laws of physics, provide a dynamic and engaging sound, devoid of harshness and with a great emotional content. All active stages have fixed bias polarization, the driver has stabilised power supply with gas diodes. The power supply uses a generous filter inductance to provide a DC voltage with very low AC residue.
The wiring is entirely point-to-point with a very sophisticated mass system, in order to make inaudible any noise that would be extremely annoying in the headphones. The volume controls are independent for the two channels. Finally, the real power of 1 watt rms on load , it is absolutely superabundant to any sensible use of the device
The frame is in solid padouck, with a copper top plate, and a birch plywood bottom plate. The control panels are laser cut and gold engraved glass. Moving parts are made on an inhouse CNC machine.

Clinamen SATYA : E55L Single Valve (€5990)
SATYA is the ultimate Clinamen headphone amplifier, with the potential to become end game. It has a simple but extreme circuit design, and is built around a single valve --> the E55L.
This is a pentode with Magnoval base, a professional valve with a guaranteed life of 10,000 hours. It has fabulous electrical parameters (30 times gain with an internal resistance of only 650 ohms at the chosen working point) among which the transconductance of 45mA / V stands out.. these are numbers light-years ahead of those normally found in the High-end segment. Obviously we use it triode strapped obtaining the useful power of 0,8 Watt rms with distortion under 1% WITHOUT ANY FORM OF FEEDBACK.
The E55L in our working point it is exploited to 60% of its anodic dissipation and therefore the life of the valve is the last of your problems. The chosen working point was aimed at favouring linearity, without unnecessarily stressing the valve: in fact, we have a power exceeding the half Watt, which we consider abundant for listening through headphones. Linearity of the triode-strapped E55L is extraordinary: already for anodic current values of 30 mA, the amplification coefficient remains constant at the value of 30 and the internal ressitence well below 1000 ohms. The high transconductance has another extreme and delightful effect: the super quietness of the active device, and this in a headphone amplifier is an absolutely decisive aspect.
The circuit is extremely simple and uses custom parts of the highest grade: an input transformer with a Vacoperm core acting as voltage shifter and decoupler, a 24-position stepped attenuator volume control, and a custom Clinamen output transformer also in Vacoperm. Obviously all without any form of feedback. The custom Clinamen output transformer has two secondary windings allowing the output impedance to be set to 32 ohm or 128 ohm, thus covering a wide spectrum of headphones. The user-operatable impedance selector also has a MUTE position.
On the front there are two millivoltmeters, which thanks to the internal calibration, show the mA reading of the polarization of each valve (quiescent current). We preferred their use to the classic milliammeters because the voltmeters are placed in parallel and therefore are not crossed by the signal current, resulting in a better sound and increased reliability. Besides being very scenic, they are also perfect indicators on the good functionality of the circuit, or on the state of efficiency of the output valves. The reading of these must be within the range between 40 and 50 mV.
The E55L filaments are continuously fed with two independent stabilized power supplies.
There are three available inputs, switchable from the front selector which, via a return rod, controls the Palazzo switch, close to the RCA connectors. This shortens the signal path and minimizes noise uptake.
The power supply is made exclusively with cork-dampened polypropylene capacitors, for maximum dynamics and responsiveness to the music signal, with no tonal coloration, and for reliability and lasting durability.
Rectifier tube is EZ81, and three chokes perfectly filter the anodic voltage. Wiring is point-to-point obviously, with OFC silvered and annealed copper, teflon insulation. Solders with tin WBT 4% Ag.
The frame is in anticorodal 3 mm painted Venus gray metallic with laser serigraphy. The Clinamen logo and the name SATYA are highlighted thanks to a numerical control process, and a backlight through an opal material that diffuses the light of two orange LEDs ( color chosen to resemble the color of the tube filaments). The instruments are backlit with blue LEDs.
