Did anyone actually try this filter? Any listening impressions/reviews?

it all depends on:

What VERSION one has (black or white insides) and indeed the amplifier.
The HD600 (580) are best driven from a high Ohmic amplifier giving it more 'warmth'
The HD650, however, is best driven from a low Ohmic amplifier, otherwise it will sound too 'dark'.
A complaint that is often heard and caused by output resistance of the amplifier (not it's components).
If you only have a higher Ohmic one the filter will also help.

IF the amplifier is low Ohmic some can still hear the veil (older versions) while those with newer versions (white) do not hear the veil as Sennheiser has CHANGED the drivers over time.

So the filter is intended for the earlier drivers.

Add to that the 'getting accustomed to' factor.
If we listen to headphones that are rolled off but NOT lacking extension we will perceive it as 'correct'.
When you directly compare to headphones that extend well and have no peak in the highs (say DT1350) as most 'bright' headphones do the 'veil' starts to show.
I have never viewed it as a veil but more as a lack of brilliance.
Once you heard the older type HD650 through the filter (or the newer PCB that will also address other areas) you do not want to listen to it without the filter ONCE you heard how it also can sound.

My hd650 was bought in 2008-2009. White material, visible through the grills, covering the drivers.

That explains why you guys do not experience 'the veil'.

I have the old (black internals) version and it definitely lacks some highs compared to the newer one.
Strangely enough it still shows microdetails while being 'rolled off' it improves considerably with the filter mentioned in this thread.
Only to be surpassed by the modded T50RP with its filter circuit.
