Dac Clock Frequency Doubling

Hi Frans,

Is it possible to up the clock frequency for my MF X-Dac V3 DSD1792 from 24.576 MHz to double and the MF X-Dac V3 will still work?

In order to use an oversampling rate of the delta-sigma (ΔΣ) modulator of 128 fS, the system clock frequency is required to be greater than 256 fS.



PS. 88.2 and 176.4KHz sampling rates are missing in the table but both are accepted.

What is the purpose of doubling the clock frequency?

Oh, according to what were reported for the PK Dac at RG and others at DIY Audio, it sounds subjectively better. Although we are talking of MHz and should not affect the audible sound (20-20Khz), but doubling the clock does bring that threshold further away from the audible range. Also, in terms of engine analogy comparison, we are talking of a faster V12 engine versus a V6. Same for computers we use daily.

Technically, I'm not the expert which only people like Frans or Javier can explain better as they are the technical men.
