Impressions from the tourLooks and BuildWhen handling the RânG you immediately get the impression of a very well build and sturdy unit, made from quality materials. Iâm no expert in parts and building procedures for headphone amps, but to me build quality looks very, very fine. For me the only design issue is the three rubber feet the unit rests on. I would have liked four, one for each corner, to avoid tipping when the amplifier is turn on/off with the switch on the rear.
Evaluation of the looks will of course depend on personal preferences, but I find the combination of black aluminium and oil treated oak wood panels on the sides to be very aesthetically appealing. My wife says it looks cute

SoundHeadphones used: Denon D2000, Beyerdynamic T90 and Sennheiser HD650.
For all listening the Audiolab M-Dac fed with FLAC files via USB was used as source
I started out with a little casual listening and found the RânG to sound very good, offering a pleasant, transparent and entertaining presentation of the music. I didnât find anything to put a finger on.
In direct comparison with the headphone out from the M-dac the RânG sounds darker with less treble. The Mids seems to be more forward and a bit aggressive from the RânG but that could also be due to the soundstage being a little smaller. I do prefer the M-Dac for the airy treble and more open sound, but itâs a close call and the RânG really put out a lot of good sound for such a small thing. ď
Tube rollingI have absolutely no experience in this field, but along with the amp came three more tubes, so of course I had to try them out.
Most of the listening was with what I think is the tube supplied with the RânG (marked CCCP) and I only spend a short while with the tube marked Amperex and the one marked Siemens. There was one more tube, but I didnât get time for that.
Amperex: I found this tube to sound very similar to the CCCP-tube. Maybe a little more treble and soundstage, but still darker and not as airy and open as the M-dac.
Siemens: This tube seems to give the RânG a brighter and more aggressive sound, but it also lacked the smoothness of the other tubes. There was some sort of unbalance or lack of control that I didnât like.
Thanks very much to Zigis for the opportunity to try this nice little amp
